Formed in October, 2007, the Voice of Huntingburg is a loosely-organized group of local residents concerned with rumors and the lack of communication taxpayers are receiving from City officials.
It began on 4 October 2007, immediately following the City Council meeting where about 15 residents attended to voice their concerns over rumors about the City courting a prison hospital to house convicted felons in the former St. Joseph’s Hospital building. The treatment of the residents and the information, or lack thereof, prompted the formation of this group. On Monday, 8 October 2007, an e-mail was sent to interested parties. The following evening, the first discussion meeting was held, 9 October 2007. Over 150 people attended that meeting.
The Voice of Huntingburg functions as a watchdog group on behalf of the taxpayers and residents of the community. The goal is to ensure the concerns of the residents are understood by City officials.
